About us: Café Saarein is an iconic bar in Amsterdam’s LGBTQIAP+ and queer community and has served for decades as a safe and inclusive space for women, feminists, and queer people. In June 2024, the bar was placed under the management of the Saarein Foundation (Stichting Saarein), with the aim of preserving and promoting Saarein’s rich history and social significance.

Saarein is a traditional Amsterdam pub with strong activist values, where solidarity, safety, and inclusivity are at the heart of everything it does. The bar brings together people of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and perspectives, within clear boundaries that ensure a respectful and fun atmosphere. More than just a bar, Saarein is a living cultural and social landmark. And all of that comes with a cozy glass of beer
