S-USIH Conference 2026 Registration

We are thrilled to invite you to the 2026 Society for U.S. Intellectual History annual conference! This year our conference will be held in Madison, Wisconsin, with panels running Thursday, November 12 through Saturday, November 14, 2026, on the campus of the University of Wisconsin–Madison at the Pyle Center.

This year’s conference centers on the theme “Intellectual Historians’ Toolkits: Methods, Theories, Practices.” Today’s best examples of intellectual history are defined by their diversity, innovation, and rigor—diversity in the subjects, sources, and methods employed; innovation in making audible hitherto silent or neglected voices; and rigor in the quality and breadth of scholarship. A previous era of sharp distinctions has given way to variety and interdisciplinarity.

With advancement come new questions: What are the shared features and practices of our work? What sources do intellectual historians use, and what questions do they bring to them? The year 2026, the Semiquincentennial of the United States, offers a symbolic opportunity to assess and renew a shared sense of purpose for the field. This conference turns intellectual history on itself, examining it both as a method and as a subject of inquiry. More conference information, including the preliminary program, is available here.

Conference Rates

· Member before Oct. 31: $170

· Graduate Student before Oct. 31: $135

· Non-Member before Oct. 31: $225

· Late Registration for Members (Oct. 31–Nov. 11): $200

*Service fees and payment processing fees will be added to your registration rate automatically through Eventbrite when you make payment.

Where to Stay

A room block has been reserved for S-USIH attendees at the DoubleTree by Hilton Madison Downtown at a special conference rate of $139/night. A limited number of rooms are available at this rate.

· On-site parking is available for $25/night.

· By registering for the conference, participants agree to S-USIH's code of professional conduct.

· Refund requests will be addressed by the S-USIH Treasurer on an individual basis. Refunds after November 1, 2026, are not possible.
