At a time where we need community and spiritual practice more than ever, we need to be awake to the ever present risk of enabling and engaging in cult dynamics. Just recently a DR podcast documented how the Natha Yoga School (based on Nørrebro) ticked off all boxes of abusive, manipulative leadership, adding the school to an ever growing list of communities that turned cultish.
In this evening talk the senior yoga teacher and zen monk Birgitte Gorm and founder of Rört Jeppe Skovgaard sit down to ask the million dollar question: “Is this a cult?”
Rather than passing judgment, this dialogue will explore how we can all stay mindful, aware and responsible when engaging in spiritual practice and its group dynamics. Jeppe and Birgitte will draw up some of the social mechanisms that often characterise high demand groups and explore ways to create strong, empowering and healthy spiritual communities.
