Résidence photo 3ème édition / Photo Residency 3rd Edition

Après le succès des deux premières résidences de photo avec Lo Kee et Martin Bertrand, l’Alliance Française de Toronto accueille le jeune photographe français Sylvain Faucon, originaire du sud de la France et basé à Paris.

Attiré depuis son enfance par la réalisation d’images fixes ou animées, il décide, adolescent, de s’adonner à la photographie, qui devient une passion nourrissant une pratique en constante évolution. S’appliquant initialement à la réalisation de portraits témoignant du quotidien de son cercle intime, sa production s’est, au fil des années, affranchie de la silhouette humaine pour embrasser une approche davantage contemplative privilégiant les paysages, notamment urbains.

Fin 2022, Sylvain a présenté sa première exposition parisienne concluant un cycle entamé durant la période du premier confinement en France par curiosité envers les moyens et grands formats argentiques sur négatifs couleurs. Influencé par le médium utilisé, l’exercice s’est transformé depuis lors en une déambulation continue en quête de témoignages (contemporains et passés) observables du passage de l’homme, en environnements urbains ou agrestes soulignant la force d’altération, souvent à son seul profit, qu’il déploie sur l’environnement qui l’héberge.

After the success of the first two photo residencies with Lo Kee and Martin Bertrand, Alliance Française Toronto welcomes the young French photographer Sylvain Faucon, originally from the south of France and based in Paris.

Drawn to the creation of still or animated images as a child, he decided, as a teenager, to devote himself to photography, a passion that has nurtured a constantly evolving practice. Initially focusing on creating portraits of the daily lives of his inner circle, his production has, over the years, freed itself from the human silhouette to embrace a more contemplative approach that focuses on landscapes, especially urban ones.

At the end of 2022, Sylvain presented his first Parisian exhibition and concluded a series that began during the first lockdown in France, which was led by his curiosity for medium and large formats of colour negative film. Influenced by this medium, his practice has since transformed into a continuous quest in search of visible evidence (that is contemporary and historical) of a human’s journey within urban or rural environments underlining the force of change, often to their sole benefit, that they relay unto their environment.
