RVA Peace Dances - 2nd Saturdays (NEW TIME - Just October!)

October 10, 2026 ONLY: Potluck finger foods at 6:00 pm; Dance Circle ~6:30 - 8:15 pm! (to accommodate those who want to attend the Richmond Folk Festival and then join us afterward!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are invited.... to experience Dances of Universal Peace, an embodied practice with live music and singing that honors the world's wisdom traditions as we experience healing and a celebration of life together in community!
We meet in our circle on mostly 2nd Saturdays, September through June! (In July and August we are on vacation and encourage everyone to participate in a DUP related retreat/event.)
We gather 4:00 - 6:00 pm at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond, followed by a simple nourishing potluck meal. We welcome you to join us and invite friends! Please arrive a few minutes early to settle into the space and greet friends. This allows us to start on time (or close to it) at 4:00 pm. Thank you!
Dress in whatever way is comfortable for you and you may dance barefoot or with shoes on. Please bring a water bottle that can be refilled with our filtered water pitcher.
We envision the shared potluck meal being quite simple, without the need to reheat casseroles, for instance. There is a microwave and sink in a kitchenette adjacent to our meeting room, but not a full kitchen. We will provide a pitcher of filtered water and paper plates, cups, silverware. We would love it if you brought your own reusable dish/bowl/cup, etc.!
Location/Parking:
We're so excited to share these moving interfaith embodied prayers with you at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond (1000 Blanton Ave. across from Byrd Park, adjacent to the Carillon). There is on-street parking and a small gravel parking lot behind the church.
A few logistical things:
--If you feel safer wearing a mask, please do wear one. We will have a few on hand, along with hand sanitizer in case you would like to use either.
--If you are not feeling well or have been exposed to anyone who is or was symptomatic during the past week, please stay home and take good care of yourself and don't risk infecting others. There are lots of viruses floating around.
--Please bring your water bottle. There's a water fountain in our room where you can refill from and we also bring our water filtering pitcher from Home.
~ A Circle of Reciprocity ~
The Dances of Universal Peace (DUP) are moving meditations in which we cultivate the vibration of peace and acceptance within ourselves and in our world through sacred chant, song, and live music from all the world's wisdom traditions. This is not dance as performance; it is a practice of embodying qualities like peace, unconditional love, unity, forgiveness, and joy. There is no audience and there are no performers. We share a deepening experience together through movement and song, celebrating Life's great mystery. We touch the Divine within ourselves and witness it in others.
Each dance is taught step-by-step and phrase-by-phrase and everyone is welcome! Newcomers and experienced dancers alike learn and move together. If you can talk, you can sing these chants and songs from all the world’s wisdom traditions. If you can walk, you can move with us in these dances.
