Rumbarrocco:Fandango - Latin-American Dances fom Renaissance to Present!

Rumbarrocco:Fandango! features Latin-American dances and song-dances, including folias, jácaras, and fandangos, from the Renaissance to the present. The music spans from the early Spanish Cancioneros (songbooks) in old Iberia to contemporary folk and popular music from Venezuela and Mexico. Included are dances such as joropo from Venezuela and Colombia and fandanguito from Mexico. Performers will switch from the European viola da gamba and Renaissance guitar to the Venezuelan cuatro and bandola, in order to illustrate the similar yet distinctively different sonorities, and the rhythmic and harmonic connections between the two continents. Music by Anonymous, Encina, Ortiz, Murcia, Machado, and others.

La Donna Musicale Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the historically informed performance of Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Contemporary music by women composers. The ensemble uses period instruments and historical performance practices.
Rumbarroco’s mission is to recreate, preserve, and popularize the vital rhythms and music of the past that traveled from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas and vice versa.

La Donna Musicale and Rumbarroco have presented over 500 concerts/demonstrations in the USA, Europe, and South America at institutions such as Harvard, Rice, and Clark Universities, and Simmons and Providence Colleges. They have produced several groundbreaking commercial CDs to outstanding national and international reviews, winning awards and accolades. They have presented many modern world premieres, from composers who were nuns to worldly composers of opera and oratorio. Their radio & video presentations have reached thousands of people, from China to Chile, from Austria to Australia, and from Colombia to Cork.
