Time: 6pm-9pm
Description: This course will provide an overview of traditional or "primitive" rug hooking, a utilitarian craft using fiber remnants ("thrums") to create household goods. This craft has roots in pre-industrial England and the United States and is a way of creating illustration in fiber form. It is perfect for makers who both love fiber art and drawing/designing. The course will provide basic instruction in the craft, including tools, materials, techniques, design and composition. It will also over an in depth history of rug hooking and survey contemporary artists exploring new and inventive ways of using this craft.
Tuition: $265 + $60 materials fee

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.

About the Artist
Kirsten Ervin is a Pittsburgh-based artist exploring the intersection of illustration, fiber art and collage. Her fiber practice includes traditional rug hooking, punch needle embroidery, rug tufting and embroidery. She currently teaches artists with disabilities at Studio Forget Me Not! in Carnegie, PA and sells her work at Argyle Studio in Pittsburgh. She and her husband coordinate The Silver Apple Gallery, one of Pittsburgh's smallest art venues.
