Join artist and printmaker Ian Halawi in a fun stamp making workshop session.
Ian Halawi is an artist based in Blackburn with a studio at Prism contemporary. He has many years experience of running printmaking workshops with various organisations such as the Lancashire wildlife trust, royal horticultural society and the national festival of making. A lot of his work is inspired by nature and this shows with a graphic illustrative style that shows in his relief prints.
In this 2 hour workshop with Ian, you’ll be introduced to using simple carving techniques and tools used in relief printing to carve into a rubber stamp/eraser making a little stamp you can take home
No prior experience is necessary as all skills levels are welcome and everything you need for print making will be provided.
What you’ll be doing:
-You will working on a piece of soft cut
-Planning your design
-Transferring your design
-Carving your design
-Inking up your stamp
-Printing your design and creating pattern using it
There will be various images for inspiration but feel free to bring along your own sketches or ideas. Aprons will be available for people to wear but it is also recommend that you wear some old clothes you don’t mind getting ink on. Hope to see you there.
This workshop is primarily for adults, but is open to ages 14+ (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult).
The cafe will be open for drinks & cake.
Please use the accessible entrance to the rear of the building.
Saturday 4th April - Ian will also be running a workshop teaching the basics of lino cutting, creating relief prints using hand burnishing techniques.
