rr club – reading rebellion – je kolektivní a nehierarchický čtenářský klub, kde otevřeně diskutujeme nad nadčasovými, kritickými texty a dalšími mediálními formáty o architektuře a souvisejících tématech. Na nadcházejícím setkání pokračujeme ve čtení knihy řeckého architekta a profesora Stavrose Stavrida „Common Space. The City as Commons“.
Kniha se věnuje městu jako prostoru sdílených statků (commons) a kolektivního vyjednávání. Ve druhé části (kapitoly Shared Heterotopias, Housing and Urban Commoning, Metropolitan Streets as Contested Spaces a Occupied Squares, Societies in Movement) rozvíjí Stavrides koncept městského sdíleného prostoru jako procesu commoningu – otevřeného, konfliktního a nikdy nedokončeného utváření kolektivních forem soužití. Na příkladech uprchlických squatů v Aténách, okupovaných náměstí či sousedských iniciativ ukazuje, jak marginalizované skupiny vzdorují izolaci prostřednictvím solidarity, sdílení zdrojů a prostorové improvizace. Klíčovou roli zde hraje pojem prahu a poréznosti: společné prostory nejsou ani bezpečnými enklávami, ani stabilními institucemi, ale proměnlivými místy setkávání, kde se vyjednávají hranice mezi soukromým a veřejným, mezi „my“ a „oni“.

rr club – reading rebellion is a collective and non-hierarchical reading group where we openly discuss critical, timeless texts and other media related to architecture and its broader social, political, and cultural contexts. In the upcoming meetings, we will gradually discuss the book "Common Space. The City as Commons" by Greek architect and professor Stavros Stavrides. At the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 17. 3. 2026 at 18:00 at café Klub Betlémská, we will begin with the first chapter of the book: Inhabited Common Spaces (p. 65–180).
The book explores the city as a space of shared resources (commons) and collective negotiation. In the first part (chapters Shared Heterotopias, Housing and Urban Commoning, Metropolitan Streets as Contested Spaces and Occupied Squares, Societies in Movement), Stavrides further develops the concept of urban common space as a process of commoning – an open, conflictual, and never fully accomplished practice of collectively shaping forms of coexistence. Drawing on examples such as refugee squats in Athens, occupied squares, and neighborhood initiatives, he shows how marginalized communities resist isolation through solidarity, resource-sharing, and spatial improvisation. Central to this discussion is the notion of threshold and porosity: common spaces are neither protected enclaves nor stable institutions, but shifting sites of encounter where boundaries between private and public, “us” and “them,” are continuously negotiated. At the same time, Stavrides critically contrasts these practices with dominant forms of urbanism based on control, securitization, and consumption, asking under what conditions commoning can truly challenge the logics of capital and state power – and when it risks closure or co-optation.
