Macio Moretti – drums, electronics
Mikołaj Trzaska – saxophones, clarinets
Olo Walicki – double bass, bass guitar
The Royber Trio – comprising three exceptional, experienced musicians: Mikołaj Trzaska, Macio Moretti and Olo Walicki – began performing in October 2020. They started out with Mikołaj’s music, composed for famous director Wojciech Smarzowski, but it soon became clear that the band could not be confined to a single formula. Employing the form of musical narrative, the group has transformed into a self-sustaining, biological-chemical, arrangement-and-composition partnership. The music they create has its roots in the tradition of avant-garde jazz and film music, but finds its core and inspiration in the stream of free consciousness, although – as they point out – “the division between improvisation and composition is, in essence, artificial. Improvisation is nothing more than live composition”. The Royber Trio’s music is born ‘in between’ – inreactions, reflexes, and attentive, empathetic listening. During their concerts, together with the audience, they embark on a journey through the wilderness where they themselves feel most at home. Currently, the Royber Trio is promoting their first album, released by Instant Classic, entitled November.
