Royal Danish Consulate Dinner

It is time to “skål” and celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Annemarie Sawkins, as the Danish Consul for the State of Wisconsin!

Wisconsin has a long history connecting it to Denmark. In 1846, Danes founded one of the nation’s first distinctly Danish settlements in Hartland, two years before Wisconsin’s admission to the Union. Wisconsin’s historic Danish communities include Racine, Luck, West Denmark, and Denmark. In 1976, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark visited Racine and Old World Wisconsin to inaugurate the Danish Settler’s Home. Milwaukee’s Danish Sisterhood is one of the oldest in the country. There is a growing number of Danish companies across the United States and in Wisconsin. The WCW Club member Annemarie Sawkins was appointed Honorary Consul in 2014 and began her responsibilities in 2015. The Royal Danish Consulate Dinner will celebrate this milestone. You are invited to join the Grand Celebration, as we enjoy a Chef Jan-prepared Danish meal and learn about Denmark’s connections to Wisconsin, Famous Danes from the state, Danish-American enterprises, and the exploits of Danish enthusiasts.

The Consulate is a major resource for people interested in Denmark. It serves Danish citizens living or traveling in Wisconsin, and provides contacts for Danish companies seeking opportunities in the state. The Consul invites you to learn more about the ties between Wisconsin and Denmark. This celebration is your opportunity for members and their guests to enjoy some authentic Danish hospitality (Hygge) and walk away with a better understanding of the connections between Wisconsin and Denmark.
