Our documentary honors Tatá, the last great spiritual elder of the Yawanawá people of the Brazilian Amazon.
At 103 years old, Tatá carried the tribe’s spiritual legacy through decades of colonization, missionary interference, and the rubber trade. When the Yawanawá began reclaiming their culture in the 1980s, it was Tatá who guided a profound revival — transmitting ceremonies, sacred songs, healing practices, plant knowledge, and ancestral stories once kept secret for survival.
The Spirit of Tatá offers a rare glimpse into Tatá’s final days — a historic and deeply moving moment as the tribe prepares to lose its beloved elder and greatest living library of spiritual wisdom. Even from his deathbed, Tatá continued teaching, devoted to passing knowledge to the next generation.
This story reflects a global truth: cultures everywhere are racing to preserve their languages, traditions, and elders’ wisdom before it is lost forever.
This film is a call to remember — and to protect Indigenous knowledge for the sake of all life on Earth.
