About This Event:

Ready to break up the mid-week monotony and touch some grass? Join us for The Kickback Picnic the official outdoor networking launch hosted by Roux Books. We are skipping the stuffy, high-pressure networking mixers and replacing them with smooth lo-fi tones, meaningful conversation, and an intentional creative community under the Brooklyn sky.

Whether you’re taking a half-day to write on a picnic blanket, looking to connect with fellow New York storytellers, or just want to "slide through" and unwind right after your workday, this field is curated for you. While this is an adult-focused environment designed for deep creative networking, children are absolutely welcome if you need to bring them along!

The Itinerary & Event Zones

📚 The Book Swap (Roux Books HQ): Bring a book from your personal shelf that you’re ready to part with and trade it for a new treasure.

• The Rules: 1) One book per trade, 2) Don't write directly in the books (use our provided note cards), and 3) No spoiling the ending!

🎙️ Hourly Open Mic & Creative Writing:

Every hour, we’ll drop a fresh writing prompt to get your creative juices flowing in your notebook. We'll then open up a 1-2 minute mic space for casual spoken word sharing and announcements.

✨ The Encouragement Area:

Drop a note of anonymous creative encouragement in our community bowl, and take a note left by someone else when you need a boost.

🏆 The Lounge & Play Field:

Connect over casual volleyball, hacky sack, or grab board games and playing cards (Uno, Spades) to take back to your blanket.

🦕 Peak Energy (Mid-Afternoon):

Don't miss our hilariously competitive Inflatable Costume Relay Race. Yes, there will be T-Rexes.

Date: Wednesday, July 15th

Time: 1:00 PM – Dusk (Arrivals are welcome all afternoon and post-work!)

Location: Prospect Park, Brooklyn (Near The Wellhouse historic stone building/restrooms)

🗺️ How to Find Us: Prospect Park is massive, but we’ve got you covered. Look for our vibrant, neon sidewalk chalk arrows on the park paths starting at the main entrances.

Follow the chalk straight to our setup near The Wellhouse! We will be buffered 50-100 feet away from the building so we have plenty of open grass.

🎒 Pack Your Bag:

Your Official Assignment To get the most out of the Kickback vibe, please make sure to bring: 1. A Blanket to lounge on. 2. A Snack or Drink for yourself, or something to share at the communal Kickback Kitchen tent. 3. A Book to participate in the Book Swap. 4. A Journal/Notebook for the hourly writing prompts. 5. Good Vibes.

✨ Admission & Donations This event is entirely Free to attend, but RSVPs are required so we can keep an accurate headcount for supplies and space.

If you’d like to support the future of our community, we will have a Donation QR code on-site specifically to fund future Roux Books writing and artist workshops.
