Have you ever wanted to tell your own story as a visual novel?

In this hands-on workshop, you will make a visual novel with RouteVN Creator, a free app that needs no coding. You will start from opening the app for the first time and finish with a game ready to publish on itch.io.

The workshop is led by the developer of RouteVN Creator, who will be available to answer any questions you have about RouteVN.

What to expect

This workshop is for complete beginners, writers and artists with stories or art to turn into a game, and people who have made visual novels in other engines. You are welcome to come with friends and work on one visual novel as a team.

If you have your own story or art, definitely bring it along! If not, that is completely fine. We will provide art and music assets you can use.

You will learn how to:

• Write dialogue and add characters, backgrounds and music
• Add choices and branching routes
• Use advanced features such as variables, conditions, animations and custom layouts
• Export your game and publish it on itch.io

What to bring

You do not need to prepare anything. Just bring a laptop (preferred), tablet or mobile phone.

Schedule

• 3:00pm: Arrival, registration and setup
• 3:15pm: Introduction to RouteVN Creator
• 3:45pm: Hands-on: make your first scenes
• 4:30pm: Advanced features
• 5:00pm: Hands-on: finish your game and export it for itch.io
• 6:00pm: End
