The authors’ presentation will spotlight historical events that happened on Tulsa’s Route 66. Copies of "Route 66 in Tulsa" will be available for purchase.
About the Book
Route 66 in Tulsa, written for the Route 66 Centennial in 2026, is the latest in Arcadia’s Images of America series. Over 200 photographs document Tulsa’s importance to the country’s most famous highway.
From the route’s conception by Tulsan Cyrus Avery, known as the Father of Route 66, to the road’s 20th Century heyday; to the route’s “official” decertification and Mother Road rebirth, sparked by another Tulsan, author Michael Wallis; to the City of Tulsa’s Route 66 Neon Grant Program that has brought brilliant neon back to Tulsa’s historic routes; to exciting new attractions, including Buck Atom Space Cowboy; to Tulsa’s official designation as the Capital of Route 66.
About the Authors
Steve Clem, an avid Route 66 enthusiast, is a Trustee at Sand Springs Cultural and Historical Museum where he curates the travelling exhibit, Photo tour of the Mother Road. Clem has authored two previous Arcadia books, Tulsa’s KAKC Radio: The Big 97 and Tulsa Movie Theaters.
Becky Hatchett grew up on Tulsa’s Westside, where she is president of the Southwest Tulsa Historical Society. Hatchett also volunteers at Route 66 Historical Village, a premier attraction on Tulsa’s 26 miles of Mother Road.
