We are headed to Mobile, Alabama for the AASLH annual conference. Our panel session will explore what has worked and what more could be on the horizon balanced commemoration in the sports museum field - with the aim to engage public history practitioners in examining and broadening the conversation about sports history as a lens for challenging long held cultural ideologies and driving a more inclusive understanding of sports and the broad lens of humanity found there within. Kathryn Leann Harris and Douglas Stark will present along with Sarah Calise Curator of Community Histories at Special Collections and University Archives Vanderbilt University and author of the book's essay "Striking Out: Museums Aren’t Interpreting Queer Sports History…But They Should Be," and Kristin Gallas of MUSE Consulting and author of "Stepping Up to the Plate: Interpreting Sports with Well-Rounded Exhibits."
