About this Event
In most jurisdictions, economic development and affordable housing are separate activities with different staff. You are either a “Houser” or an “Economic Developer”. Economic Development may mean different things to different people, and each community's programs will be different, but there is one consistent goal – Improve the quality of life and economic well-being of the community. Affordable Housing aims to ensure that there are affordable housing opportunities for all income ranges in the community. Although the definitions are slightly different, the end goal for both Housers and Economic Developers is to ensure that there is economic growth, revitalization, and stability in a community. Housing, education, employment, and health are all linked to economic growth and development. So why is it that we often treat them separately – You can’t have one without the other! Join us for a discussion with City staff on the intersection of Economic Development and Housing. In times where financial resources will grow increasingly limited, how can jurisdictions leverage Economic Development and Housing resources for the common good of community revitalization?
