Being a woman and defending the land is the double threat faced by women environmental defenders all over the world. On March 8, we will listen to the testimony of defensoras from Peru, Colombia and The Netherlands/Bolivia. They will share stories about climate activism and their experiences and struggles within the defense of their territories, in order to promote solidarity and to connect different struggles for justice. They’ll also talk about the vital role of women in activism.

DEFENSORAS:
Mirtha Villanueva has over twenty years of experience in sustainable rural development and working in grassroots social organizations. She is the director of GRUFIDES, a Peruvian organisation that works for the defense of human and environmental rights. Since joining the fight for human and environmental rights in 2000 versus colonization and violence wrought by multinational mining projects in Cajamarca (Perú).
Chihiro Geuzebroek is a multidisciplenary artist, organizer, trainer in decolonial climate justice perspectives and practices. She is Bolivian-Dutch with Quechua ancestry born and raised in Amsterdam. She is the Director-Producer of feature doc Radical Friends & Co-founder of Aralez Foundation.
Sandra Yezenia Marín Galeano is a biology teacher in Tamesis, in the southwest of Antioquia, Colombia. She is a member of COA (Cinturon Occidental Ambiental), a local network of rural communities and various grassroots organisations that fights to protect the area from large-scale gold mining and other harmful economic activities. Through environmental education, Sandra sensitises children and young people to stand up for their environmental rights and to protect the local nature and biodiversity. Together with her daughter Valentina - also active in COA - she is a guest in Flanders within the framework of the Broederlijk Delen campaign.
Dayana Corzo is an ecofeminist, human rights lawyer and environmental defender. Dayana has over a decade of experience in environmental activism in her hometown Bucaramanga, Colombia. Now based in Belgium, Dayana looks into the arts and creative processes as a way of resisting against extractivism and patriarchal oppression. Besides, Dayana continues her feminist and environmental activism from abroad with Catapa as well as through her own social media channels and the digital collective Areantipatriarcal.

Op 8 maart luisteren we naar de getuigenissen van Defensoras uit Peru, Colombia en Nederland/Bolivia. Zij zullen hun ervaring met klimaatactivisme delen en vertellen over de strijd voor de bescherming van hun leefomgeving. Zo willen we solidariteit bevorderen en verschillende strijden voor rechtvaardigheid met elkaar te verbinden. De Defensoras zullen het ook hebben over de vitale rol van vrouwen in het activisme.

Sinds het jaar 2000 zet ze zich in voor de rechten van mens en milieu en strijd ze tegen alle vormen van kolonisatie en geweld veroorzaakt door multinationale mijnbouwprojecten in Cajamarca (Perú).
Chihiro Geuzebroek is een multidisciplinaire kunstenares en trainer in perspectieven en praktijken rond dekoloniale klimaatrechtvaardigheid. Ze is Boliviaans-Nederlands met Quechua afkomst, geboren en getogen in Amsterdam. Als regisseur-producent maakte ze de documentaire Radical Friends en ze is mede-oprichter van Aralez Foundation.

Sandra sensibiliseert via milieu-educatie kinderen en jongeren om op te komen voor hun milieurechten en de lokale natuur en biodiversiteit te beschermen. Samen met haar dochter Valentina – ook actief binnen COA - is ze te gast in Vlaanderen in het kader van de campagne van Broederlijk Delen.

Ser mujer y defender la tierra es la doble amenaza a la que se enfrentan las defensoras del medio ambiente en todo el mundo.
El 8 de marzo, escucharemos el testimonio de defensoras de Perú, Colombia y Holanda/Bolivia. Ellas compartirán historias sobre el activismo climático y sus experiencias y luchas dentro de la defensa de sus territorios, con el fin de promover la solidaridad y conectar las diferentes luchas por la justicia. También hablarán del papel vital de las mujeres en el activismo.

Mirtha Villanueva tiene más de veinte años de experiencia en el desarrollo rural sostenible y en el trabajo en organizaciones sociales de base. Es la directora de GRUFIDES, una organización peruana que trabaja por la defensa de los derechos humanos y ambientales. Desde que se unió a la lucha por los derechos humanos y medioambientales en el año 2000 contra la colonización y la violencia provocada por los proyectos mineros de las multinacionales en Cajamarca (Perú).
Chihiro Geuzebroek es una artista multidisciplinar, organizadora y formadora en perspectivas y prácticas de justicia climática decolonial. Es boliviana-holandesa con ascendencia quechua, nacida y criada en Ámsterdam. Es la directora y productora del documental Radical Friends y cofundadora de la Fundación Aralez.
Sandra Yezenia Marín Galeano es profesora de biología en Tamesis, en el suroeste de Antioquia, Colombia. Es miembro de COA (Cinturón Occidental Ambiental), una red local de comunidades rurales y diversas organizaciones de base que lucha por proteger la zona de la minería de oro a gran escala y otras actividades económicas perjudiciales. A través de la educación medioambiental, Sandra sensibiliza a niños y jóvenes para que defiendan sus derechos medioambientales y protejan la naturaleza y la biodiversidad locales. Junto con su hija Valentina -también activa en COA- es una invitada en Flandes en el marco de la campaña Broederlijk Delen.
Dayana Corzo es ecofeminista, abogada de derechos humanos y defensora ambiental. Dayana tiene más de una década de experiencia en el activismo anti extractivista en su ciudad natal, Bucaramanga, Colombia. Ahora radicada en Bélgica, Dayana busca en los artes y los procesos creativos una forma de resistir contra el extractivismo y la opresión patriarcal. Además, Dayana continúa su activismo feminista y ambiental desde el extranjero con Catapa, así como a través de sus propios canales en las redes sociales y el colectivo digital Areantipatriarcal.
