“May the Fourth” be with you this Rosslyn Reads Book Festival! Join us for our annual book sale in partnership with Turning the Page, Saturday, May 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Central Place Plaza, inspired by Star Wars! Bring your family and friends out to shop a selection of thousands of low-priced books, CDs, and more. Plus, don’t miss our bookmark giveaway to go with your new books, while supplies last.
This annual event supports Turning the Page, a DC-based non-profit organization who strives to engage parents as educators in resource rich programming, allowing those to become active participants in children’s education. By building a community of caregivers, Turning the Page supports improved academic performance and well-being among the youth.
Grab a fresh-baked cookie and a glass of milk while you listen to some of your favorite stories! Captain Cookie will be onsite selling a variety of cookies, ice cream sandwiches, and more starting at noon.
And Princess Leia and Chewbacca will also be making a special appearance for story time, so make sure you stick around for a photo opportunity with your favorite Star Wars characters!
Shop various crochet and knit items from Mimi Crochet Apparel who will be selling handmade plushies, bags, Star Wars themed items, and more! Mimi has over a decade of experience crocheting and knitting and is the owner and creator behind the brand. Joining her will be her brother Adun Henry who is a local artist. Adun is passionate about bringing ideas to life through art and will be selling a variety of his work including Star Wars and superhero prints. Stop by to check out their head-turning creations.
LOCAL AUTHORS
Come meet Arlington-based author Alexandra Pugachevsky and learn more about her work at the event. Having immigrated from Moscow, Alexandra writes in the urban fantasy genre, capturing her love for a variety of cities in her literature. An international development professional by day, she holds a BA in International Relations and French from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master's in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
Sana Hoda Sood, a Rosslyn resident and children's book author, will be joining the book festival to share her book "Stories of the World: Diwali". Originally from India, books were her closest companions as she traveled often, now she strives to inspire a love for books in little readers. In fact, 100% of her book proceeds go to charities in India to educate young girls. You can find Sana working as a marketing and communications consultant when she is not writing.
