About this Event
ABOUT OMNIVORE X THICK PRESS
Omnivore Inc. is a three person, female-owned graphic design studio located in Brooklyn, N.Y., Portland, Ore., and Los Angeles, C.A. They are first generation Asian Americans, working mothers, design educators, small business owners, food lovers, justice seekers, and friends. They have been collaborating since 2002 and often think of themselves as a three headed monster. They have recently finished designing the exhibition graphics and publication for USC One Archive’s Sci-fi, Magick, Queer L.A.: Sexual Science and the Imagination as well as ongoing collaborations with Ruth Foundation for the Arts and MIT Morningside Academy of Design.
In 2017, one of the three heads of the monster joined with a childhood friend, a social worker, to form Thick Press, an experimental publishing practice that makes unusual books about care work and the work of care. Working collaboratively with others, Thick Press has published books that range from zines to hybrid nonfiction to workbooks to a 512-page Encyclopedia of Radical Helping (forthcoming) that brings together writing and images from over 200 contributors, including social workers and therapists; artists and designers; witches and body workers; educators and organizers; and more. Omnivore has been involved directly or indirectly in making every single Thick Press book.
