Rose City Art Jam: Q Center Fundraiser

Join us for the first RCAJ of 2025, and a very special fundraising event. All proceeds above the cost of the room and materials will go to the Q Center, a local nonprofit which provides essential services to our LGBTQIA+ community in Portland. Read more about them here: Q Center. We are asking for a minimum donation of $15. If you can't make it to the event but would still like to donate, there will be an option for this at check-out.

NEW!: This event is going to be drop-in style over a 3 hour window. This means you can drop by anytime and make art at your own pace. Dani will be providing instructions to folks as they arrive.

Rose City Art Jam is the art workshop and adult playtime you never knew you needed. Instead of learning a technique or creating something pretty for your wall, you will enter a zone curated for exploration, fun, and connection. This workshop series is built upon the training and experience of a licensed art therapist, who happens to also be an enthusiastic advocate for play in adulthood.

This is not a therapy group, but rather a community experience with easygoing vibes and low expectations. You do not need to be an artist or have any experience with making art. Much of the emphasis here is on nurturing your innate creativity, no matter how estranged you might be from it. "Ugly" and messy art is welcomed, and even encouraged!

Important Things to Know:

• This is located in the Concordia Community Room at McMenamin's Kennedy School. It's a bright and airy old classroom. You can find this room by entering through the east entrance from the parking lot. Make a left at the first hallway and follow it all the way to the end. There is a sign above the door marked “Community Room.”
• This group is lightly facilitated by Dani Dierking, art therapist. She will have a new offering for each jam, whether it be a theme, specific art media, or other direction to work from. She will be around throughout this time to assist and hype you up as needed.
• All art supplies are provided!
• Wear clothes that are comfortable and you don’t mind getting gunk on (it can happen!). Feel free to bring an apron and/or gloves.
• This Art Jam will not be a dry event.This means you are welcome to grab a drink at any of the bars at Kennedy School and bring it to the event, as long as you take your empties out with you. Please have fun, but please drink mindfully and respectfully in this space. Complimentary water and tea will be provided as well.
