Rory Newman celebrates the release of his latest single, “Somewhere, Somebody” with a live, full band show at The Wolfhound, with special guest Mel Taylor. The launch will feature new work as well as several songs from his recent EP Mirror Flame.
“Somewhere, Somebody” was recorded at Rolling Stock Recording Rooms in Collingwood, VIC with engineer and producer Myles Mumford. The first taste of a debut album in the works, the new single features the indie-folk & alt-country stylings of Rory’s previous work with an added twist of baroque pop and intricate songwriting reminiscent of artists like Elliott Smith, The Beatles and Jeff Buckley. The single will be available for digital download and streaming on Friday the 21st of August, 2026.
Rory Newman is a singer, songwriter and guitarist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Drawing from a wide array of influences including folk, blues and jazz, he blends fingerstyle guitar, rich baritone vocals and an eclectic songwriting style to create a vivid tapestry of sound. Rory launched his second EP “Mirror Flame” in June 2025 at The Wesley Anne in Northcote VIC, and more recently opened for celebrated Australian singer/songwriter Pete Murray on his “Longing” tour in December 2025.

Mel Taylor forged her sound in Victoria’s High Country, with a lyrical knack for storytelling and a rich alto vocal tone reminiscent of Carole King, Bonnie Raitt and Gillian Welch. The alt-folk songwriter weaves heartbreaking melodies that soar above her acoustic guitar work, with recent performances supporting LIOR [AUS] and Kristina Olsen [US]. Her latest single ‘Remember Who You Are’ was shortlisted in the 2021 Australian Folk Music Awards, and is the first offering from her debut album in development – proudly supported by APRA/AMCOS.
There will not be food available at the venue, but you are welcome to bring in your own from outside. There are plenty of great options nearby on Brunswick St, Fitzroy.
