About this Event

Witness the Fitzgerald Family's determination for emancipation as remembered through the memories and writing of the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray. Together, we will unpack personal memories and embody collective responsibility with one another. Bring your curiosities; move and create with us!

This tour is a collaboration between Whistle Stop Tours and the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice.

How much are tickets?

General Admission: $25

Youth (under 10): Free

Legacy Residents of the West End Neighborhood: $15

Why does Whistle Stop Tours charge for their tours?

Ticket sales support our nonprofit partner the Pauli Murray Center, pay local Black artists, and make subsidized tickets available for people who hold historically marginalized identities.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The West End Neighborhood is accessible by walking, biking, bus, or driving west from downtown Durham. There is on-street parking on Carroll Street.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start time to check in. The Pauli Murray Center's lawn exhibit offers information on Pauli Murray's activism, family, and the house. The tour will disembark at 10 AM sharp.

What should I wear/bring to the event?

Wear comfortable footwear and clothing appropriate for variable temperatures. Bring a water bottle, an umbrella for rain or sun, bug spray, and a camera/cell phone for pictures. Video is not allowed.

What if it rains?

Tours will continue in light rain; however, under the threat of flooding, freezing rain, snow, or thunderstorms tours will be rescheduled for another Saturday.

What's the refund policy?

We do not refund tickets. If the buyer is unable to attend the tour they are registered for, tickets may be used towards a future tour. The buyer must contact the organizer by email 24 hours prior to the start of the tour to make arrangements.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You do not need to bring your printed ticket unless you experienced or suspect a malfunction when ordering. Your name will be on the registration list. Please check in once your entire party has arrived.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes.

COVID POLICY:

I acknowledge the contagious nature of the Coronavirus/COVID-19 including the Omicron variant, and that the CDC and many other public health authorities still recommend vaccinations, masking, and social distancing.

I further acknowledge that Whistle Stop Tours requires participants to stay home if they believe themselves to have COVID-19 and/or its variants, showing symptoms, or have been exposed to the virus.

I further acknowledge that Whistle Stop Tours requires participants to wear a well-fitted mask at all times during the tour, and any time participant is on the property of the Pauli Murray Center.

I further acknowledge that Whistle Stop Tours and PMC staff and personnel take preventative measures to reduce the spread of Coronavirus/Covid-19 by masking, social distancing, presenting vaccine status or a negative Coronavirus/Covid-19test within 72 hours.

I further acknowledge that Whistle Stop Tours and PMC staff and personnel will likely remove their masks in the delivery of presentations and performances.

I further acknowledge that Whistle Stop Tours can not guarantee that I will not become infected with the Coronavirus/Covid-19. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to and/or infected by the Coronavirus/COVID-19 may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, tour staff, and other tour clients and their families.

I voluntarily seek services provided by Whistle Stop Tours and acknowledge that I am increasing my risk to exposure to the Coronavirus/COVID-19. I acknowledge that I must comply with all set procedures to reduce the spread while attending a tour.

I attest that:

* I am not experiencing any symptoms of illness such as fatigue, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell.

* I have not traveled internationally within the last 14 days.

* I have not traveled to a highly impacted area within the United States of America in the last 14 days.

* I do not believe I have been exposed to someone with a suspected and/or confirmed case of the Coronavirus/COVID-19.

* I have not been diagnosed with Coronavirus/Covid-19 and not yet cleared as non contagious by state or local public health authorities.

* I am following all CDC recommended guidelines as much as possible and limiting my exposure to the Coronavirus/COVID-19.

By purchasing a ticket and attending the Pauli Murray Tour, I, my heirs, and/or any personal representatives hereby release and agree to hold Whistle Stop Tours and Pauli Murray Center harmless from, and waive on behalf of myself, my heirs, and any personal representatives any and all causes of action, claims, demands, damages, costs, expenses, and compensation for damage or loss to myself and/or property that may be caused by any act, or failure to act of Whistle Stop Tours and Pauli Murray Center, or that may otherwise arise in any way in connection with any services received from Whistle Stop Tours and Pauli Murray Center. I understand that this release discharges Whistle Stop Tours and Pauli Murray Center staff and personnel from any liability or claim that I, my heirs, and/or any personal representatives may have against Whistle Stop Tours and/or Pauli Murray Center with respect to any bodily injury, illness, death, medical treatment, or property damage that may arise from, or in connection to, any services received from Whistle Stop Tours and Pauli Murray Center. This liability waiver and release extends to the Whistle Stop Tours and Pauli Murray Center together with all owners, partners, and tour operators.
