An Elevated Evening Honoring the African Legacy of the American Cowboy
Before the cowboy became an American symbol, Black riders, ranchers, cattlemen, horsemen, and culture-bearers were already shaping the land, the trails, and the legacy.
Join us an elevated cultural benefit experience hosted at Roots 101 African American Museum. This gala-style evening will honor the forgotten Black cowboys and the African diaspora roots woven into American Western history through storytelling, music, community, a silent auction, and a curated plated dinner inspired by African foodways, Southern classics, and frontier traditions.
Guests will experience an intimate evening where history is remembered, culture is celebrated, and legacy is brought to the table. From the Motherland to the range, Roots & Reins pays tribute to the riders whose impact shaped the cowboy story, even when history refused to name them.
This benefit serves as the cultural and philanthropic companion to Bourbon, Blues & Boots: The MidSouthern Hoedown, deepening the mission behind the celebration. While Bourbon, Blues & Boots brings the music, bourbon, rodeo energy, and community experience to life, Roots & Reins creates space to honor the history, heritage, and Black cowboy legacy at the heart of it all.
Evening Highlights
• Plated heritage dinner
• Live band and musical moments
• Silent auction benefiting the cultural mission
• Storytelling and cultural reflection
• Community gathering inside Roots 101 African American Museum
• Rodeo Elevated / Western Chic atmosphere
