Rooted in the Dark: Exploring through Living Myths & Stories of the Land

*This event costs £35 per participant which covers costs of the venue, includes lunch within the ticket price, facilitation fee, and contributes to ensuring the therapeutic is safely held through professional registration, insurance and supervision of the dramatherapist. Any profits from the event will be donated to RASASH - Rape and Sexual Abuse Service Highland who’s support for anyone 13+ who has experienced sexual violence and prevention work supports the campaign to end violence against women and girls.

As the 16 Days of Activism aims to bring awareness and action to end digital violence against all women and girls, this day retreat offers an invitation to dive into and explore how reconnecting with the earth, her stories and our selves can empower change within and bring meaning to a fully “connected” digital world that we often find ourselves feeling disconnected from.

Join dramatherapist Kate Stevens for this experiential day retreat exploring the inner world’s relationship with gender-based violence through myth, movement, meditation, nature, and art. Whether you’re new to creative self-exploration or already on a “wellness journey”, this session offers an embodied, inspiring space to reconnect with yourself. This retreat aims to provide you with a safe and creative space to explore and express your inner world, whatever your background or experience.

This workshop focuses on reconnecting with the inevitable descent of night and trust in the dark cycle of these winter months, through exploration of Inanna’s journey to embrace her shadow, before turning to welcoming in the Cailleach of Celtic mythology and Nyx, the daughter of Chaos and Greek Goddess of Night. 

Through storytelling, guided visualisation, playful embodied group activities, and individual reflective art-making and writing, you’ll journey into ancient myths that hold both inherent universal wisdom and deeply personal relevance. Rooted in the rituals and principles of dramatherapy, this process offers a supportive and warm group setting - a space that invites curiosity, insight, creativity, and connection.

Led by Kate Stevens, a HCPC-registered dramatherapist based in Inverness, this day retreat draws on years of experience in therapeutic and community spaces. Kate specialises in practising inclusive, trauma-specific work, and is passionate about utilising myth in supporting people to explore their inner worlds with curiosity, collaboration, and kindness. 

The venue is fully accessible, including toilets. This day retreat is adaptable for all accessibility requirement. Please ensure you share any accessibility requirements with Kate on the booking form so adaptations can be made in advance.: Accessibility - Dundreggan Rewilding Centre

The retreat space is in the Tipi Tent. A fire pit is available and will keep us warm alongside flasks of hot tea, however please dress for the weather including warm layers, clothes that you are comfortable moving in, and sturdy shoes for uneven ground as we venture through some the pathways of Dundreggan Rewilding Centre. A lunch of warming soup will be provided within the ticket price.
