Rooted Ecosystems CBO Full Day Learning Series
About this Event
This full day of community building and professional learning will bring together community based organizations (CBOs) participating in NewRoot's Rooted Ecosystems program. Attendees will participate in two learning sessions, Foundations of Restorative Justice and Community Building Circles, led by NewRoot's experienced facilitators. Lunch will be provided! Please read on for more details on the materials that we'll cover.
Morning Session | Foundations of Restorative Justice
Restorative Practices are tools that only hold meaning and power if a practitioner understands Restorative Justice as a philosophy and mindset. This experiential workshop asks participants to examine their own beliefs about relationships, community, harm, and repair, leaving this workshop with a greater understanding of why restorative practices are essential in schools and communities, the role their own self-awareness plays in that, and the importance of deepening community through restorative mindsets, language, and approaches to harm.
LUNCH BREAK
Afternoon Session | Community Building Circles In this session participants will learn to build intentional, proactive Restorative Justice practices through the use of Community Building Circles. Community Building supports groups of young people and adults to connect, build trust, and maintain ongoing relationship building. When strong relationships exist within a community, individuals are less likely to harm one another and more invested in repairing relationships when conflict occurs. Using NewRoot best-practice planning tools, participants will leave this workshop ready to build and strengthen relationships in their community through the time-honored practice of circles.
