About this Event
Root Beer Float Social at the Bergamo Center
Meet the new executive director Kelli Kinnear and say farewell to the retiring director Brent Devitt. Please bring your own favorite root beer mug and like a miracle it will be refilled all evening. Soft Pretzels and a variety of craft beers will be served as well. There will be a special appearance of the Viel Spass (Have Fun) German "oompah" brass band. Let's celebrate July 18, the feast of St. Arnold, patron saint of brewing, in style!
Come join us for a fun and refreshing Root Beer Float Social at the Bergamo Center in the lounge and on the patio! Enjoy a casual evening of mingling with friends of the center and trying different varieties of this classic drink. It's the perfect opportunity to relax, socialize, and maybe even discover a new favorite root beer brand.
We are planning for this event to be as "Green" as possible. Guests are encouraged to carpool with friends, or cycle to Bergamo. Plastics will be avoided and recycling & composting promoted. Prizes will be awarded to the greenest guests.
Please RSVP by Monday, July 8 so we have a good idea of how many kegs of root beer to order!
Icon of St. Arnold at the entrance of St. Arnold Brewing Company, Houston, TX. By the hand of Fr. Andrei Davydov.
During an outbreak of the plague a monk named Arnold, who had established a monastery in Oudenburg, persuaded people to drink beer in place of water and when they did, the plague disappeared. Arnold spent his holy life warning people about the dangers of drinking water. Beer was safe, and “from man’s sweat and God’s love, beer came into the world,” he would say.
“Don’t drink the water. Drink the beer.”
— St. Arnold is revered as the Patron Saint of Brewers
