About this Event
Join us under the stars and carnival lights of the Shipyard as we kick off our season with Ronya-Lee & the Light Factory and Aztlan!
Ronya-Lee, is a Caribbean-American folk-soul singer-songwriter from Washington, DC. Born to Jamaican immigrants, she spent her early years cultivating a career as a dancer/choreographer. The ukulele-playing fem-crooners' musical stylings fuse folk, soul, & rock with strokes of psychedelia. With a sultry soprano and well-crafted lyricism, she moves between genres to create a unique pop blend.
Aztlan is a DC-based group composed of three members, Jake Joholsky, Collin Eccles, and Kahlo Guerrero. Inspired by the psychedelic and blues rock sound of the 60s and 70s, the group seeks to find a new modernized sound to facilitate the transfer of ideas and visions to the public.
The Shipyard is a popup venue in Silver Spring with a donation door. Donations are split between the artists and Abodes Joy a MD-based nonprofit that trains and empowers diverse learners – women, nonbinary folx, and transgender people – in home repair to build skills, confidence, and community.
