About this Event

How do we craft stories that both engage and challenge readers? Join award‑winning author Romy Ash in workshop exploring ways to write compelling climate fiction. The workshop will draw on Ash's acclaimed novel Floundering, her children’s book, , and her latest novel , which explores how intertwined the human and natural world really are.


About Romy Ash:

Romy Ash is a critically acclaimed, award winning novelist. Her research and writing practice moves across the fields of novel writing, journalism and interview practice, creative non-fiction, short fiction and writing for children. She was Highly Commended in the 2025 DDCA Award for Distinguished Innovation in Creative Arts. She has been awarded The Felix Myer Scholarship (2011) and The Australia Council Book Award (2013). Her first novel Floundering was shortlisted for The Miles Franklin Award, The Prime Minister's Literary Award and the Commonwealth Writers Prize, amongst others.

Her children's picture book As Bright as a Rainbow was published in 2024. Her essays and journalism have been published in The Saturday Paper, The Guardian, Meanjin, The Griffith Review and others. She is a founding member of the creative practice research group NovelLab.

She has received funding from Creative Australia and Creative Victoria. Fellowships and residencies she has been awarded include The Bundanon Trust (2023) and Varuna, The National Writers' House: Second Book Fellowship (2015) and GREW Prize (2011).
