Romantic Spirits: Fate, Fear & Transcendence traces a powerful arc from shadow into light. Weber's Der Freischutz Overture opens with a dark, supernatural forest, and Schubert's Overture in the Italian Style follows with theatrical brightness.
Violinist Kate Anderson, winner of the Music Foundation of Greater Naples Scholarship Competition, joins the orchestra for the first movement of Mendelssohn's beloved Violin Concerto, music of impassioned lyricism. The program closes with Brahms's Symphony No. 2, a work filled with flowing melodies and an undercurrent of darkness that makes its radiant conclusion all the more powerful.
