Tickets: £10Richard Hayward 1892-1964 lived on the Antrim Rd for many years and folksingers Maurice Leyden and Jane Cassidy have teamed up with writer Paul Clements to present a show celebrating Hayward’s contribution to the cultural life of Ireland north and south. Hayward was an actor, director, filmmaker, travel writer, musician and singer and what shone through his work was a love of the island of Ireland – its people, stories, landscape and music. Photos from Paul’s biography ‘Romancing Ireland’ bring Hayward and his life and times alive, providing a delightful trip down memory lane alongside local folksongs and spoken word.
Paul Clements is a travel writer and broadcaster; author of Romancing Ireland; Richard Hayward, 1892-1964, Irish shores; A Journey Round the Rim of Ireland 1993, The Height of Nonsense; The Ultimate Irish Road Trip 2005 and Burren Country; Travels Through an Irish Limestone Landscape 2011 and Jan Morris; Life From Both Sides. A former BBC journalist he lives in Belfast.
Jane Cassidy is a folksinger, writer and broadcaster who has lived in North Belfast since her student days. She has released 5 albums Waves of Time and The Empty Road (Claddagh Records) and Mary Ann McCracken, Silverbridge and Linen Songs. In 2023 she published her debut novel The Desire Line (Poolbeg).
Maurice Leyden is a folksinger, broadcaster and writer with a passion for local song. A resident of North Belfast, Maurice has published 2 collections; Belfast City of Song (Brandon) and Boys and Girls Come Out to Play (Apple Tree) as well as 3 albums; The Tern and the Swallow, Mary Ann McCracken and Linen Songs.
