About the film: 2h15min – Drama – Rated R for nudity, some disturbing images, and language - Spanish
Originally released in 2018 from writer/director Alfonso Cuaron, “Roma” became an instant classic as it swept the Ariel Awards (Mexico’s highest film honors) and won three Oscars (Best Foreign Language Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography). Cleo is one of two domestic workers who help Antonio and Sofía take care of their four children in 1970s Mexico City. Complications soon arise when Antonio suddenly runs away with his mistress and Cleo finds out that she's pregnant. When Sofía decides to take the kids on vacation, she invites Cleo for a much-needed getaway to clear her mind and bond with the family.
The screening event will include information about the new Caja de Agua fountain that was gifted to Tulsans by our first Sister City, San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Made of pink quarry stone, the Caja de Agua is a replica of the landmark and symbol of San Luis Potosí. This bespoke, handmade replica was designed to serve as a lasting gift celebrating decades of friendship and ties between our two cities. Measuring 8.5ft tall, the Caja de Agua will soon be installed at the Tulsa Botanic Garden! Stay tuned for more special screenings with Tulsa Global Alliance highlighting our Sister Cities around the world.
Located 225 miles northwest of Mexico City, San Luis Potosí is famous for its beautiful old churches, colonial architecture, and Mexican traditions. Its population is just over 2.6 million, and approximately 60% of its residents are under the age of 30. The State was given the name "San Luis Rey," King Saint Louis, in honor of Louis IX of France, and "Potosí" because the wealth of the state compared to the rich silver mines in Potosí, Bolivia. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Franciscans, Augustinians, and Jesuits arrived to the area and settled, and then began to build churches and buildings, many of which are still standing and have been turned into museums and universities.
Tulsa Global Alliance has been a cornerstone of the Tulsa community since 1976 and is an award-winning nonprofit focused on building global community. To achieve its mission, TGA hosts international professionals and students, facilitates Tulsa’s nine sister city partnerships, supports global education and exchanges, and promotes international business development.
Tulsa Botanic Garden is a vibrant oasis just 8 miles north of downtown. Don't miss Autumn in the Botanic Garden through Oct. 30, and starting Oct. 21, see the special gift from Tulsa’s Sister City, San Luis Potosí—a replica of their iconic Caja del Agua.
