Rolling Together - Workshop: Confidence in Speaking Up, Finding a Voice

This workshop develops the confidence and skill to speak on behalf of the skate community — especially when advocating for skaters' interests when dealing with planners, councillors, developers, or the media.

Participants will learn how to adopt and adapt the language of institutions to get their voices heard, while still staying rooted in skateboarding’s own values and language. This isn’t about performance or tokenism — it’s about knowing your ground and holding it.

Rolling Together’s programme includes a series of 3 monthly workshops and a Go See / Skate Jam trip to Gloucester. Running from February, they’re for skaters in Plymouth who care about where skating happens, what’s changing in the city, and how we can have more say in it.

These sessions are just for the skate community — not public events or showcases. They’re a chance to come together, share what we know, build confidence, and work out how we want to respond to changes in the city, especially around Civic Plaza and the Armada Way Regeneration.

Each session leads into the next. We’ll map what’s happening now, talk about who feels included or pushed out, build skills in speaking up and organising, with a view to shaping a community plan we can take forward together. With further activities to come.

Attendance at all three workshops expected to further community cohesion and action together. We are working with key national voices to lead the sessions and are delighted to announce that the first two sessions will be run by WeSkateSoton.
