Rolling Rangers MTB Skills Progression Camp is a week-long ride + trailcraft experience for ages 12–16 who already ride confidently and are ready to level up—both on the bike and on the trails we all share. We start by sharpening core MTB fundamentals at speed and in real terrain: bike lean, “peek & push” cornering, front/rear wheel lifts, ratcheting, and clean line choice through loose and rough surfaces. From there, riders progress into features and flow—log-overs, small drops, and controlled landings—building the skills that unlock bigger, safer riding.
As the week ramps up, we move into YJR Level 3 techniques and “ride readiness” so riders can handle advanced features with confidence and good judgment. Expect dedicated sessions for track-stands, bunny hops, and purposeful body movement (like the lunge-drop) that translate directly to larger drops, jumping progression (singles → tabletops → doubles/gaps, as appropriate), and optional advanced trail elements like wall rides (only when conditions, coaching, and readiness align).
But this camp isn’t just “ride harder.” It’s also trail building and maintenance in a real way. Campers learn how trails are designed, built, and sustained—and then they do the work: using trail tools, shaping tread, managing drainage, improving durability, and leaving the park better than we found it. We weave in bike systems and field skills so riders can be more independent: derailleurs and chainrings, quick-release/thru-axle basics, dropper posts, plus tube/tire systems, air systems, and a practical look at first aid and what belongs in a saddle bag.
The week blends coached riding, feature sessions, trail work blocks, and “field lab” skill stations—finishing with an optional family ride or showcase lap that celebrates progression, stewardship, and earned confidence.
Level 2 focus (control + terrain + trail features)
- Bike lean + “peek & push” cornering
- Front & rear wheel lift foundations → log-overs + light feature work
- Ratcheting + timing for tech climbs and awkward terrain
- Riding loose/rough terrain, small drops, and roll-down options
- Bike systems: derailleurs, chainrings, quick release et al, dropper posts
Level 3 focus (advanced technique + readiness + progression)
- Track-stands (balance/control) + bunny hops (feature clearance)
- Lunge-drop mechanics for stability + bigger feature control
- Ride Readiness: saddle bag contents, tube/tire systems, air systems, first aid
- Large drops + jump progression (singles, tabletops, doubles/gaps as appropriate)
