About this Event

Please make sure to familiarise yourself with our new rules, event etiquette, anti-abuse policy and our COVID-19 policy before attending.

This event will take place in Studio 3, which is wheelchair accessible. Please refer to our accessibility guidance for details.

Tickets go on sale Saturday 20th May, 4pm.

Please arrive on time at 1pm for a sharp 1.15pm start. We will then go through housekeeping so that everyone is on the same page during our events. The day is split into two sessions with two 15min breaks.

If you need help on the day, like finding the right studio or support with access, you can contact us on 07990496691. Please note this phone is only active on the day of events.

We usually go out for a meal after each event. We are currently in search of a new place which is more accessible than our usual spot, and trying out a new place each month. In June, we will be trying Sukothai. It is wheelchair accessible and has GF and vegan options.

Session 1: Rope 101 and Microbondage

There will be two workshops running simultaneously, it’s your choice which one you take part in.

Rope 101

Our well known 101 sessions return to teach you rope handling, basic skills and communication. You'll leave this class being able to tie a body up and glean some starter tips on how to be tied. Why not come along and take the first step on your rope journey?

Pre-requisites: none

Microbondage

Microbondage pays attention to the small details: fingers, toes, lips, hair, tongues, pretty much anything but limbs. In this class, we’ll be exploring slow, intentional play that creates tension and immobilization through tying finicky or overlooked body parts. We’ll be showing some of the tools we use for this kind of bondage when thicker ropes would struggle, and sharing safety tips.

Pre-requisites:

People tying: a solid single column of your choice, familiarity with frictions, comfort reading non-verbal cues desirable.

People being tied: Good communication from inside rope, awareness of your boundaries, non-verbal communication skills desirable.

Session 2: Tying with bamboos

Adding straight lines to our rope play opens up many new ways of tying. We’ll cover ideas from the spreader bar, through to more free-form ways of integrating bamboo into your ties. Many of the tips for tying on humans won’t work well on the incompressible surface of wood, metal, or whatever solid bar you might be using, so we’ll be teaching the juggling act of moving from one to the other fluidly. We will be providing bamboos.

Pre-requisites: attending the 101 session, or

People tying: a solid single column of your choice, familiarity with frictions.

People being tied: Good communication from inside rope, awareness of your boundaries.

COVID-19 policy

We have put a lot of thought into balancing the needs of those more vulnerable to COVID-19 with other accessibility needs. Our solution isn’t perfect, but we will continue reviewing it as time goes to hopefully facilitate the safest space we can.

We ask that you only attend our events if you’re fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless medically exempt) AND take an LFT on the day of the event, with a negative result. We will check this on the door. We have LFTs you can use, please arrange to meet us before the event to do so if you wish.

It is up to you whether you wish to wear a face mask, but if you do, please facilitate accessibility for our lip-reading crew and attendees by temporarily removing your face mask before speaking to anyone wearing a ‘lip-reader’ sticker. Majority of our crew at the June event will be lip-readers.

We will have windows open for ventilation as much as is possible without making the room too cold. It is up to you whether you choose to tie with multiple attendees or only one partner. If you come solo, please bear in mind that we can’t guarantee you will find a partner at our event.

Pricing

Any profit we make on crew-led workshops is used to make our guest-teacher workshops more affordable for our attendees while still making sure we pay our guest teachers fairly. We offer solidarity tickets for those with less expendable income, to allow them to participate. We want everyone to be able to learn rope. We also accept donations if you're feeling extra comfortable in your finances this month, to allow us to offer solidarity tickets and continue running sustainably.

If a solidarity ticket is not accessible to you please get in touch at [email protected] and we will arrange an energy exchange. In return for your ticket you might be able to help us during the event, make some art for us, make some social media posts for us, or something else!
