We are very excited to welcome vibraphone player, @RogerBeaujolais, to Smokey Joe’s for the very first time! Roger is one of the UK’s most celebrated and creative vibes players. And it’s not just Roger – it’s his vibes! This is a special treat. We don’t often see the vibes on jazz gigs, and we’re really looking forward to squeezing Roger and his gear onto our special Smokey Joe’s stage. It’s going to be intimate! Roger crosses genres, from straight-ahead jazz, to acid jazz, and to his brilliant association with 80’s band, Fairground Attraction. In addition, Roger has played on sessions with Robert Plant, Roni Size, Duffy, Neneh Cherry, Shola Ama, Snowboy, Rumer, Alexander O'Neal, Ed Motta, Paul Weller, Tony Allen, Omara Portuondo, Morrissey and many more.
This year, he released another amazing album called Bags Of Vibes, paying tribute to the celebrated Dizzy Gillespie/MJQ vibes magus Milt Jackson, which featured Jim Mullen on guitar and a host of dazzling UK players.
Other artists Roger has supported include Nina Simone, David Sanborn, Manhattan Transfer, Marcus Miller, Herbie Hancock Trio, Tribute to Miles Davis (featuring Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Tony Williams & Wallace Roney), Suzanne Vega, John Scofield with Eddie Harris, Spyrogyra, Mike Stern, Bob Berg (with Dennis Chambers), Michael Bublé, Marianne Faithful and Mike Oldfield. Roger is unstoppable!
Joining Roger tonight, we have the awesome house band, with the flying socks and passion of @alexsteelejazz on piano; the mighty groove merchant, Mike Cypher on drums; and the beautifully melodic, lyrical and effervescent, ‘the thing is …’ Mike ‘Moyk’ Green on double bass. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
