w/ The Telephone Numbers, Remedy & Wren

Rocketship:
Some of the best records are those that transcend the usual parameters of music to create worlds of their own. When it’s clear that what you’re listening to isn’t just a collection of that year’s songs, but a deeply thought-out, architected space where ideas clash, converse, interlock; these are the albums that end up lasting well beyond their era, changing with us, and revealing new surprises every time we return to them. One of the clearest examples of an album that crafts a strange and beautiful world not quite like any other is Rocketship’s 1996 full-length debut A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness. Even upon arrival, this was an experience unto itself, and 30 years later, these eight songs of bittersweet bliss still feel new. Slumberland is delighted to release a 30th Anniversary edition of this instant classic, making it readily available on vinyl and CD once again after years of unavailability and collector demand.
The Telephone Numbers:
San Francisco’s Telephone Numbers are making music inspired by mid 80-90’s American college rock, a sonically sunny detour from seemingly endless 90’s shoegaze and alt-rock revivals. Thomas Rubenstein’s signature bright jangle is tempered by heady literary lyrics and surrounded by harmonica, violin, and mandolin arrangements. Songs on their forthcoming record, Scarecrow II, harken deep Minneapolis and Athens vibes from a time when you found your favorite bands by taping late night college rock stations, sent a S.A.S.E. for a catalog, and listened to one song over and over again until the mail came.

Remedy & Wren:
San Francisco based Remedy & Wren is the new project of producer and songwriter Alicia Vanden Heuvel, founding member of indie pop groups Poundsign and The Aislers Set. Band members feature Vanden Heuvel’s long-time collaborators: Tony Molina on guitar, Rebecca Barron (Poundsign, Kids On A Crime Spree) on drums, and Dan Lee (Scrabbel, The Aislers Set) on guitar. Vanden Heuvel sings, plays bass, piano, and records the band in her analog home studio, Speakeasy Studios SF, on Otari 8 track reel to reel tape.
Their first release, the self titled Remedy & Wren will be out Summer 2026. Featuring jangle pop songs influenced by birds, trees, a summer day, water, music made by humans and named in honor of two tree sitters “Remedy” and “Wren", who occupied old growth trees for nearly a year, as a peaceful protest in the early 2000’s against the catastrophic logging practices of now bankrupt Pacific Lumber Company.
