Bio
Rocket Science: Cosmic Indie Sounds Born From Ottawa’s Underground
Rocket Science is not your average indie band. Composed of seasoned veterans from the Ottawa and international music scenes, this powerhouse four-piece delivers a completely original sonic experience that defies traditional genre boundaries.
The band’s origin story began in the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Frontman Amory LeClair, fresh off his 6th album, and Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI) specialist JB Talmadge—who first crossed paths in LeClair's previous group, Delightful Conspiracy—decided to keep the music alive.
Sitting six feet apart on a backyard patio, they began translating LeClair's original songwriting into a duo format. Armed with an Aerophone capable of mimicking everything from symphonic violins to extraterrestrial synths, the duo sounded so massive that local neighbors thought a full orchestra was rehearsing next door.
Picking up on the neighbor’s comments, they decided to refer to themselves as an orchestra.
As public venues reopened, the duo took to local stages, but they knew their cosmic sound required a full launchpad. To complete the vision, they recruited bassist and vocalist Nick Chapchal, a masterful multi-instrumentalist who previously collaborated with LeClair. Finally, veteran percussionist Paul Dowling joined the ranks on electronic drums, locking in a precise, modern rhythm section.
Today, Amory LeClair & The Rocket Science Orchestra stand as one of Ottawa’s most innovative and entertaining musical exports. Combining deep musical chemistry with cutting-edge electronic instrumentation, Rocket Science delivers a high-energy, completely original live show that is truly out of this world.
