Kevin Prater formed The Kevin Prater Band in 2007. Now in his fifteenth year leading The Kevin Prater Band throughout the USA and Canada, 2022 marks the 42nd year of his bluegrass journey. Kevin's professional career began at age seven. Kevin has entertained in 24 countries and 49 states. He has toured with many legends of bluegrass including twelve years as mandolin player and acclaimed tenor vocalist with The James King Band. During his time with King, Kevin was blessed to be part of two "Album of the Year", a "Song of the Year" and a "Recorded Event of the year" award winning recorded projects from SPBGMA and the IBMA. Kevin Prater has shared the road with many other bands including Jerry Williamson and Red Wing, Mark Phillips and Third Generation, Melvin Goins and Windy Mountain, Timmy Cline Band and The Bluegrass Brothers, where he earned a nomination as "Banjo Player of the Year".
Kevin Prater of Belcher, Kentucky is proud to have been twice honored by the House of Representatives of the great state of Kentucky for preservation and promoting the states treasured music. Kevin Prater has twice been declared a Kentucky Colonel.
Kevin Prater is known world wide for his impressive "Machinegun Mandolin" . Joining him in creating the bands unique sound Jake Burrows of Randelman, NC. on banjo and dobro. Jake, now in his sixth year with the band amazes fans with his vocal range to sing any part. Jake came with a huge resume of bluegrass talent having played with Dr. Ralph Stanley & Clinch Mountain Boys, James King Band, the Burrows Brothers and many others.
Gary Isenhour of Harmony, NC. on guitar has a lifetime of bluegrass experience. Gary's soulful voice and award winning flat-picking and rhythm styles are a true asset to the band. Gary and played with Dewey Farmer and Powder Creek, Harold Kilan and Catawba River Boys, Dry Run Bluegrass and the Sons of the South.
On fiddle, 17 year old Mallory Hindman from Reader, WV. Mallory has been studying bluegrass fiddle as well as classic violin most of her life. Mallory is homeschooling her Junior year of high school as well taking classes at Glenville State College, Appalachian Music Studies program. Mallory has been blessed to learn form and share the stage with many great fiddlers in her your career including Eddie Stubbs of the Grand Ole Opry and the late Byron Berline. Mallory is a strong Kenny Baker style fiddler.
The Kevin Prater Band offers the perfect blend of seasoned veterans of bluegrass mixed with the high energy and excitement of young talented fresh musicians. Every member contributes to the band vocally. In addition to bluegrass the band has a huge catalog of classic country, bluegrass gospel, grassed up vintage rock and original material.
