A debut at The Verdict Jazz Club for the latest project from pianist, keyboardist and composer Robert Mitchell.
Diversity has always been at the heart of Robert Mitchell’s remarkable career. His recent tenure as Artist in Residence at Morley College provided the setting for a new venture that draws on his extensive musical legacy while sounding unlike anything he has created before.
Inspired by the heavy fusion of Chick Corea and Allan Holdsworth, the psychedelic, bluesy swagger of Jimi Hendrix and the fearless multimedia explorations of Cecil Taylor, Little Black Book brings together three exceptional musicians in an uplifting celebration of sound, energy and improvisation.
Mitchell is joined by Laurie Lowe on drums and Zayn Mohammed on guitar, combining power, precision and unbounded imagination to bring the project to life.
All the compositions were written specifically for the trio, shaped around their unique blend of musical personalities. Mitchell describes the project as an opportunity to explore the possibilities of electronic keyboards, taking on multiple roles live — from lead voice to bass — while fulfilling a long-held desire to work more closely with guitar and capture the excitement and freedom it brings.
The trio will perform music from their debut album, Blueprint (Of an Infinite Gift), released on Whirlwind Recordings.
