About Road Trip
Car rides and couch time can be great opportunities for conversation. A Michigan family is driving Up North and you are in the backseat in our production of Road Trip: A Parental Advisory Initiative.
Road Trip is presented in three acts, with six fantastic professional actors playing the role of parent and youth.
Throughout the performance, a tracklist of popular songs and shows will be played and discussed, including: Kendrick Lamar "Swimming Pools (Drank)" & "Mother I Sober," Simple Plan "Perfect," Mike Posner "I Took a Pill in Ibiza," Kane Brown and blackbear "Memory," Elliott Smith "Between the Bars," Miley Cyrus "We Can't Stop," Miley Cyrus "Slide Away," James Taylor "Fire and Rain," Post Malone "I Had Some Help," Bad Bunny "Calliata," and scenes from Stranger Things and Euphoria.
Throught the show the cast will press pause to discuss the song or show's portrayal of drugs and alcohol. Our goal is for you to feel like you could see yourself starting similar conversations with your children. Even if they don't engage right away it doesn’t mean they didn’t hear you. You are planting important seeds that can really make a difference.
After the performance, we will have an open discussion and Q&A with three expert panelists and the Parental Advisory/HBOM/OPEN team. Panelists include:
- Charles Graham, PhD, LCSW, University of Michigan, Adolescent Addiction Disorder Expert
- John Steffenson, C. S. Mott Children's Hospital, Michigan Medicine, Music and Occupational Therapist
- Vicki Kavanaugh, CPS, Arbor Circle, Prevention Manager, Prevention and Advocacy Division
About Parental Advisory
Today’s caregivers are raising young people in a world with social media, high-potency legal cannabis, vaping devices, counterfeit or poisoned pills and increasing concerns about youth mental health. Many parents grew up in simpler times, when warnings and campaigns focused on fears rather than honest conversation.
The world has changed, but one thing has not: Young people need trusted adults who listen, stay informed, set clear boundaries, and stand beside them when things get hard.

Arise E. Rock: (Youth, Part I) A recent BFA Acting graduate from Western Michigan University. Rock has a passion for storytelling that amplifies underrepresented voices, and her work is rooted in the belief that theatre is a powerful tool for change. Off stage, she is just as dedicated to these values, using her voice to challenge the system that would seek to keep her silent. When she’s not on stage, you’ll probably find her climbing trees, dancing in the rain, or trying to adopt every stray cat she sees. In addition to acting, Rock is a published author of several books, including The Trail to Home, Hero of Avendor, and The Beautiful Now.
Krystle Dellihue: Parent, Part I) A Detroit-based actor and playwright, excited to work on this timely project. Credits include Moon Man Walk, Nollywood Dreams, and Doubt. When not on stage, she writes socially conscious plays, works in voiceover, commercials, and indie films.
Aaliyah Nicholas: (Youth, Part II) A current sophomore at the University of Michigan where she studies Musical Theatre and plans to pursue the arts after graduation. Some of her favorite past roles include: Eponine (Les Miserables), Wednesday Addams (The Addams Family), and Reno Sweeney (Anything Goes). She is a proud winner of YoungArts and a recipient of the Tessa Martin scholarship from the Rochester Philharmonic League. Aaliyah enjoys long walks on the beach and fried chicken. @aalibruhh
Jazmine Broe: (Parent, Part II) An actress, clown, and dancer from Peru. She has acted for film, theatre, TV, and commercials; and has been part of many dance companies. Jazmine loves gardening, reading, and watching movies with her husband and cat Ñaña.
Anastasia Morgan: (Youth, Part III) A recent Oberlin graduate, Morgan spent the past year teaching English to French middle schoolers, which was humbling in ways she is still processing. Select credits include — NYC: Crush/Slash (Ash); Oberlin: Rocky Horror (Magenta), Dracula (Van Helsing), The Amateurs (Rona). She will also be seen in Good Sex (Netflix, 2027). Darius Franklin: (Parent, Part III) A SAG-AFTRA-eligible actor grateful to continue pursuing a long-held dream, most recently completing By the Way, Meet Vera Stark and joining the world premiere of Hattie at Open Book Theatre alongside gifted collaborators. He thanks God for opening doors and surrounding him with people who take the work seriously while still knowing how to play and have fun. He’s equally grateful to his family, friends, and the teachers who’ve poured into his journey.
Parking
Please note, ongoing construction has reduced the number of parking spaces in the parking lot behind the Walgreen Drama Center. If you need to park close, we recommend arriving early; however, parking behind the venue cannot be guaranteed.
