About this Event

RNA-seq: Functional Enrichment Analysis

Lead trainer:

Kezia Gitareja and Renee Papaluca (The University of Melbourne)

Workshop Description:

This workshop aims to provide participants with the skills to perform functional enrichment analysis on RNA-seq data. Participants will gain further insight into differential gene expression results using pathways/network analysis. The workshop will cover the application of R packages such as clusterProfiler, STRINGdb, and RegEnrich for overrepresentation/rank-based analysis and visualisation, providing a deeper understanding of functional enrichment outputs.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Apply R packages such as clusterProfiler, STRINGdb, and RegEnrich to analyse RNA-seq differential expression results.
  • Interpret functional enrichment outputs to identify significant pathways, regulators, and create pathway and network visualisations using R.
  • Understand the experimental contexts for different enrichment approaches.

Target Audience:

This Free woStaff or students with RNA-seq differential expression data to analyse and want further understanding of further functional analysis.

Eligibility:

This Free workshop is available to staff and students at The University of Melbourne and its affiliated institutes.

You must register for this event using an affiliated institutional email address or your registration may be cancelled.

Prerequisites and Requirements:
  • Basic familiarity with R/RStudio
  • Completion of RNA-seq workshops covering differential expression is recommended.
  • Participants must bring their own computers with R and RStudio installed.

Access:

If you require any further information, or have any access requirements in order to participate in this workshop, please contact us as soon as possible to discuss your requirements at: [email protected]

We recommend that following our eventbrite page if you wish to be alerted when we release new workshops for registrations.

Important Policy Update:

Starting 1 August 2025, participants who miss two or more workshops without proper notice (less than 48 hours or attending under 50%) within 12 months will be placed on a 6-month waitlist for full workshops. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance, with exceptions allowed for emergencies.
