This show is a part of the Rivanna Roots Concert Series, presented by The Front Porch and Rivanna River Company. Doors open at 5 pm and music is from 6-9 pm. Free Union
The minute you meet Michael Coleman, you sense his charisma. Free Union, led by Coleman, makes music that unites people, ideas, and styles." – Stephen Kallao, World Cafe, NPR. Free Union is a Charlottesville-based collective blending soul, R&B, rock, and pop. Led by Michael Coleman (vocals/guitar) and Rob Dunnenberger (drums), the band features Carrie Coleman (vocals), Parker Hawkins (bass), and Tyler Hutcherson (keys). Their ever-evolving sound reflects their ethos: unity through music. Since debuting at Lockn’ Music Festival (2019 & 2021), Free Union has gained momentum with features on NPR Music’s Heavy Rotation and World Café. They’ve built a dynamic catalog, releasing five major projects in 2021 alone, collaborating with artists like DJ Harrison (Stones Throw) and Grebes. Their name echoes their mission—rooted in the history of Free Union, VA, a community founded on inclusion. True to its origins, the band continues to bring people and sounds together, inspiring connection.
Deau Eyes is the musical brainchild of award winning singer-songwriter, Ali Thibodeau. Whether playing solo with her guitar or with a full rock band and backup dancers, her raw electric energy has become a staple all around Virginia and beyond. She was named one of NPR’s Artists to Watch for her “standout voice and songwriting prowess.” Thibodeau cut her teeth in New York City clubs, theaters and subway platforms (where she spent time busking) to a stint as a country crooner aboard a cruise ship. She now resides in Richmond, VA capturing the sound of the city from soulful americana pop to mesmerizing theatrical rock. Deau Eyes will make you laugh n’ cry and get down with the best of em.
