The life and art of Kaye Kaufmann, a noted Northeast Florida craftsman and teacher, will be celebrated at the Beaches Museum on Friday, January 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Kaye was born in Jacksonville, lived most of her life in Atlantic Beach, attended Atlantic Beach Elementary and graduated from Fletcher. Kaye was a charismatic educator and quick to recognize talent; a number of her students from Terry Parker and Fletcher High Schools went on to successful careers in art. She also was a founding partner of Atlantic Beach Potters where many adults learned the craft of clay ceramics from her. But nature was her first love: All growing things, particularly animals and specifically dogs which she always had around her, were the ground of her creativity. Kaye left three sons, devoted friends, grateful students and a body of bold and whimsical art that reflects her free and generous spirit when she passed on September 13, 2021.
At her request, the plates that adorned the walls of the Rite Spot restaurant, will be on display and auctioned off for charity. The plates feature a variety of subjects including historic scenes from the beaches area such as the Lifeguard Station, Le Chateau, Atlantic Beach Elementary School, the Jacksonville Beach Boardwalk and many more.
Proceeds from the auction of the plates will go to benefit the Beaches Museum and BEAM.
The auction will be online beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24 and will end at 7:00 p.m. on February 4. The plates may be viewed in person at the reception event.
