About this Event

Bring your story to life at Story Worlds’ risograph self-publishing workshop—a hands-on session for adults, where creativity meets collaboration. Explore storytelling as a form of personal expression and imagination through the vibrant, DIY possibilities of risograph printing. Whether you are working solo or alongside others, this sustainable and playful process transforms bold ideas into beautifully crafted printed works. This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in publishing their own words, reflections, or narratives—no matter the format. No experience needed—just bring your story, and we will provide the tools, guidance, and vibrant colours to help bring it to life.

About the risograph printer

The Risograph printer was invented in Japan in 1986 by the Riso Kagaku Corporation as a low-cost duplicator for schools and small offices. Today, it is embraced by artists, designers, and independent publishers for its vibrant colours, eco-friendly soy-based inks, and layered textures. Often described as a cross between screen printing and photocopying, risograph printing creates bold, tactile results. In this workshop, you will explore its creative possibilities—experimenting with colour, layout, and storytelling through this distinctive, hands-on process.

ABOUT THE STORY WORLDS FESTIVAL

Story Worlds is a new festival that invites audiences to experience storytelling as a rich, interconnected practice—through the written word, material culture, and oral traditions. Explore the programme, which stretches across Puke Ariki Museum, Libraries, and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre for four days of sessions that celebrate storytelling in all its forms and honour the ways stories help us make sense of ourselves, each other, and the world we share.

At Puke Ariki accessibility is very important to us. We want everyone in the community to be able to enjoy our museum and libraries. A lift goes from the St Aubyn Street car park to the museum entrance. There are three lifts inside Puke Ariki that will get you to all parts of the building.

This event will be held in the Puke Ariki Education Room.
