Join us for the 2nd annual Rise For Black Trans Lives. This event was organized to stand in solidarity with Black trans, GNC, and intersex community members that are often ostracized and face violence due to their interactions. Last year, during the George Floyd unrest, a Black trans man, Tony McDade, was slain by the hands of law enforcement with very little media coverage and an insufficient response from other Black-led social justice groups. During the COVID 19 pandemic, we experienced one of the hardest-hit years of Black trans murders in the US. There's an epidemic of Black trans murders that been steadily on the rise for the last few years with little media attention but very little allyship from our communities.
As Miley Hampton said at last year's Rise For Black Trans Lives, "it is time to move from allyship to accomplices.” We're asking that you stand with us as accomplices in dismantling all matters of hate and exclusion. We are creating a world where everyone is loved, respected, and supported. When it comes to Black trans communities throughout the country, health, economic, incarceration, education, and employment issues are not even noticed because of ostracization even by local and state governments. The disparities are horrifying. There has been an onslaught of “anti-trans” bills in legislatures throughout the nation. States are taking away healthcare from transgender households and banning them from restrooms. There has been 102 anti-trans legislation put forth within the last few months by right-wing Trump affiliates. How do you think this is affecting trans communities? What are you doing to ensure they have a loving human experience? Gender Justice, Climate Justice, Disability Justice, and Race Equity are all interconnected! There's no separation!!! Black trans issues are multidimensional and are relatable to any social justice issue today. You have to be radical and intentional about inclusivity to trans folk, especially BlackTransFemmes.
There will be a donation bucket at the front of the stage if you’d like to support the work of some of the performing artists and movement builders. Please be sure to follow all distancing and mask rules. Follow this page for updates, speaker info, and everything else. See you soon ✊?✊?✊?✊?✊?✊
