VISUALLY HIDDEN is pleased to announce their upcoming feature film, “Coulda Beens & Wannabes,” a brand new documentary telling the story of the forgotten speed metal band RIPHOUSE, will be premiering at the NYACK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL on Friday, April 5th, 2024 at 6PM at the Nyack Hotel in Nyack, NY. A brief Q&A with the director, Peter O’Brien, will follow the screening.
Award-winning filmmaker Peter O'Brien has spent 16 years researching, organizing and producing the film, which offers 90 minutes of archival footage and images mixed with striking interviews from professional musicians including Bobby ‘Blitz’ Ellsworth of OVER K*ll, Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza of EXODUS, as well as members of GWAR, Mobile Deathcamp, Generation K*ll along with Tito Puente Jr. and Don Jamieson of VH1’s THAT METAL SHOW. Peter O’Brien has noted that, “It was very important to get the story right and the time spent was well worth it. The story of Riphouse is unique to Riphouse. However, the story of a band that didn’t make it is sadly very universal. In that regard, Riphouse represents every band that never made it to the big time. I tried to parallel their story with testimonials from their contemporaries who endured and continue to tour. Sometimes it’s not all about luck, good or bad.”
In the early 1990s Mike Clancy, Joe Galvin, Jim DeMaria and Jon Eleazar had everything they needed to get the resounding success they were looking for: undeniable talents, inspired creativity, unique sounds, a dedicated audience... but like so many other bands, it never happened for them. From lovers of heavy metal to the curious individuals that look for astounding true storytelling documentaries, “Coulda Beens & Wannabes” shines a light on what life is like as a band, how the music industry works, and how a bright future can darken dramatically in the blink of an eye. The film will continue making its way through the festival circuit into next year. In the meantime, the entire RIPHOUSE music catalog is available through DIS WIS Records/Best Served Cold Records wherever digital music is streamed or sold.
