Ringers Brass: The Brass Symphony

Sunday, October 11th, 3pm, University Lutheran Church in Cambridge, MA.
A message from our founder:
I’m so thrilled to announce our 4th season as an organization, and boy do we have a wonderful concert to get us off to a good start!
The program will begin with an arrangement of Gustav Holst’s, St. Paul’s Suite. Holst borrowed from classic english tunes like Greensleeves, his own suite for military band Fantasia on the Dargason, and other traditional songs to create this joyous piece.
Chris Hazell’s Cat Suite is up next, keeping the spirits high with four playful pieces based on four of his cats, Kraken, Black Sam, Borage, and Mr. Jums. My favorite part is trying to guess each cat’s personality and Hazell’s relationship with them based on how the music sounds!
Followed by an intermission, we will take a brief trip to Mexico, and then Brazil, with arrangements of guitar pieces by Manuel Ponce, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Luis Bonfa. These short pieces, originally composed for guitar, are a treat for the ears, and are a great detour before our last piece on the program!
Brass Symphony by Jan Koetsier, is everything you would think a symphony for brass entails. Sweeping Horn solos, grand Trumpet lines, powerful Trombone moments, it’s one of those pieces you don’t hear often, and you don’t want to miss, I’m sure!
Bring your family and friends, because this is going to be a good one!
Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Jack Krugman
Artistic and Executive Director of The Ringers Brass
