Colonel Pedro Delgado, a Mexican officer present at the Battle of San Jacinto, described the sounds of the Texian advance in his post-battle account: "In this disposition, yelling furiously with a brisk fire of grape, muskets, and rifles, they advanced resolutely upon our camp. There the utmost confusion prevailed..."
Confusion was easy to come by. The battleground was smoky and extremely loud- so much so that the voices of men, clap of muskets, and roar of cannons was heard for miles around.
On May 8th, venture to this historic battleground to experience some of the thunderous sounds of battle as San Jacinto Battleground staff demonstrate how to fire a musket and rifle, weapons both the Mexican and Texian armies utilized on the fateful day that won Texan independence.
