Join Dr. Tom Rosburg as we slowly work our way up a loess hill ridgeline from an elevation of 1100 feet to 1270 feet. This is an elevation gain of 170 feet over 900 feet of distance, or an average gain of about 2 feet for every 10 feet of distance. It is steep, but we will use a very slow rate or "crawl" as we search for and identify every plant species observed. The ridgeline levels out somewhat at 1270 feet elevation. Another 100 feet of elevation gain can be explored by following it for another 1500 feet of distance. This section of the ridgeline has an average gain of 0.7 feet for every 10 feet of distance.
Expect to see many of the classic loess hill plant species as well as a few surprises.
